'We are the above' 2008
Charlie Tweed’s work explores control methodologies, he is interested in the human desire for control over all things. He is interested in exploring the boundaries of control desires and control solutions and their own absurdities.
He works with text and language to produce critical videos that attempt to use the medium of video art as a performative methodology for agency and critique. His video works often devise ‘recipes’ for social control and control over the environment, over-identifying with contemporary fears and anxieties and providing solutions which are extreme but potentially viable.
In his work he adopts the identity of an alter ego or more recently anonymous communities. These allow him to perform an authorial role, exploring the desires to control from different angles and perspectives as well as exploring the construction/semblance of the ‘self’.
